Grau leads MFL MarMac cross country at Waukon

The MFL MarMac cross country team continued its season at Waukon on Sept. 22. Freshman Clare Grau was impressive as the Bulldogs’ top finisher, placing seventh in the varsity girls race with a time of 22:09.6.

Fellow freshmen Kaylee Walch and Ayla Gerndt came in 45th and 46th, respectively, at 26:02.4 and 26:02.8. Sophomore Alexis Ross had a time of 27:49.0 and took the 53rd spot, while freshman Ruby Koeller was close behind in 54th place, with a 27:55.6 finish. 

The MFL MarMac girls had 201 points and were eighth as a team. Coming in first was Decorah, with 41 points, followed by Starmont with 79, North Fayette Valley with 113, Turkey Valley with 118, Crestwood with 127, Kee with 134 and Waukon with 135. New Hampton totaled 217 points and finished ninth.

On the boys side, junior Caleb Nordheim led the Bulldogs. He ran the course in 20:18.5, which was good for 39th place. Sophomore Will Koether placed 45th at 20:39.8 and freshman Cody Moses was 48th at 21:43.5. Senior JJ Lynd, freshman Kole Pape and senior Koal Klenk filled spots 55 through 57, with respective times of 25:47.6, 25:48.5 and 25:55.3.

Like the girls, the MFL MarMac boys also placed eighth as a team, with 219 points. They trailed the number-one team, Decorah, who had 22 points, as well as North Fayette Valley at 75, Crestwood at 96, Waukon at 106, New Hampton at 130, Starmont at 142 and Clayton Ridge at 145.

The Bulldogs’ schedule this week includes a meet at Jesup on Tuesday, Sept. 29, then an invitational at Crestwood on Saturday, Oct. 3.
