Daniel G. “Dan” Atkinson, 63, of Lancaster, passed away Friday, Sept. 11, 2020, at his residence. 

He was born July 30, 1957, the son of Grant and Irma (Hollenberger) Atkinson. Dan graduated from Lancaster High School in 1975. After graduation, Dan owned the Texaco station and farmed with his father, Grant. On May 27, 1978, he was united in marriage to Cindy S. McCartney at the Lancaster United Methodist Church. He continued farming and purchased his parents’ farm in 1998. In 2005, Dan and Cindy purchased River City Lanes in Fort Madison, Iowa, and later purchased Timber Lanes in Prairie du Chien. Most recently, Dan and his son, Craig, worked together to build a successful dairy goat operation. Dan enjoyed hunting, playing cribbage and a good (or bad) game of cards at Zippy’s Brass Rail. 

Survivors include his wife, Cindy; their children, Craig, Andrea, Erin (Jeff) Siedschlag, and Brian; nine grandchildren, Amber, Ashley, Grant, Audrey, Timothy, Tshaun, Juniper, Eli and Owen; a great-granddaughter, Selena; his mother, Irma; a sister, Kim; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Dan was preceded in death by his father, Grant.

In keeping with Dan’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. Family and friends may call on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 9 until 11 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home and Crematory in Lancaster. A celebration of Dan’s life will follow at Zippy’s Brass Rail, Lancaster.
