Animal show and sale happening on Crawford County Fair weekend

When the Crawford County Fair Board announced that the 2020 fair was canceled, it impacted a lot of children in families who use the event to show and sell their animals. Through the help of stakeholders, 4-H representatives, and local business owners, a local animal show and sale will be held Friday, Aug. 28 and Saturday, Aug. 29 at the Fennimore Livestock Exchange sale barn.
“I just wanted to have a place for the children to go and show and sell their animals. As an agriculture teacher, I know the importance selling and showing animals at the fair has on many kids, so to have this show and sale for them is great to see,” said Kally Koch, who is in charge of planning the event.
Jake Klaas, owner of the Fennimore Livestock Exchange, also shared the same sentiment as Koch, saying, “I grew up bringing animals to the fair every year, so I was heartbroken when I heard the fair was going to be cancelled. To just stop the process of purchasing, feeding, and training your animal all of a sudden is unimaginable.”
So far, a total of 84 exhibitors have signed up for the event.
On Friday, Aug. 28, the hog show registration will be from 2 to 4 p.m. with the show at 5 p.m.
On Saturday, Aug. 29, animal registration will be from 6 to 9 a.m. with the beef show at 10 a.m. The sheep show will follow around 11 a.m., with the goat show happening after around 1 p.m.
The sale will follow at 6 p.m. with pre-registration at 5 p.m.
All participants are encouraged to social distance during the event.
