Crawford County buildings remain closed

Crawford County buildings remain closed to public, in-person business, following discussion at a Crawford County Board personnel committee meeting July 29. 

No date has been set for reopening, so county residents must continue conducting business needs via phone or, under special consideration, by appointment in person.

According to County Clerk Janet Geisler, employees were recently surveyed by county human resources, and those various opinions were the topic of the committee last Wednesday. 

“Some of them had concerns about the recent number increases (of COVID-19 in Crawford County and the surrounding area),” Geisler said. “But we realize we need to be a service to the public. Hopefully, the transition will be soon and we can get everybody back here working.”

Presently, a number of county employees are still working from home as they have been since Wisconsin’s Safer at Home orders were introduced. 

The committee also addressed the need to make the administration building’s main (second floor) entrance off Beaumont Road more user-friendly. The goal is to install a phone, where a visitor could call a specific office before entering and be directed in the most efficient manner to do their business. 

“Somebody could call, and then staff could go meet them,” Geisler said.

Geisler said there is a phone at the first floor entrance, off Main Street, and it works well. 

She added, all offices within the administration building have had countertop plexiglass shields installed, as a precaution against the spread of COVID-19.

The committee would also like to see masks available at the entrances. 

Additionally, Geisler said, the county is hoping to coordinate with the city when the time comes to officially reopen.
