A local woman is lucky to have survived falling off a moving motorcycle Saturday, June 6, on State Highway 35 north of Prairie du Chien. She only sustained minor injuries, according to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department.

Just before 5 p.m., the Crawford County Dispatch Center received a call referencing a motorcycle incident on State Highway 35, approximately one-half mile north of Picatee Creek Road in Eastman Township.

Matthew Hinrichs, 41, of Montrose, Minn., was the driver of a 2019 Indian Chieftain motorcycle, and his passenger was Maren Reed, 41, of McGregor, Iowa. Hinrichs and Reed were southbound on Highway 35, traveling at about 60 miles per hour, when Reed fell off the back of the motorcycle. Hinrichs told officers he thought Reed was going to tell him something when she fell off the motorcycle, and he was unable to keep her on the motorcycle.

Reed sustained road rash scrapes and cuts and was transported to Crossing Rivers Health for a medical evaluation. Hinrichs had no injuries and the motorcycle did not sustain any damage. Neither rider was wearing a helmet, according to the sheriff’s department.

Assisting on scene were the Prairie du Chien Police Department, Eastman Fire Department, Eastman First Responders and Tri-State Regional EMS.
