Steven R. DuCharme, 37, of Eastman, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2020, at Mayo Health System in La Crosse, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born May 28, 1982, in La Crosse, the son of Mark and Ronna (Check) DuCharme.

He graduated from Prairie du Chien High School and later received a bachelor’s degree in business and finance from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Steve served six years in the U.S. Marine Corps and served a tour of duty in Iraq. He married Melissa Kramer on April 24, 2004, at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish in Prairie du Chien. He was most recently employed by 3M Company in Prairie du Chien. Steve gave back to the community as a member of the Eastman First Responders and helped to coach his sons Tucker and Tegan’s little league baseball team.

Steve made everyone feel like they had been friends for a lifetime. He always stopped to talk to people, whether it had been days or years since seeing them last, even if it meant making his family wait impatiently. He cherished the time spent with family and friends. He loved the outdoors, especially bow hunting. He was able to live out his dream of running a hobby farm, Triple T Funny Farm, and was known to those close to him as “the chicken whisperer.”

He is survived by his wife, Melissa; their children, Tucker, Tegan, and Tenley; his parents, Mark and Ronna DuCharme; brothers, Christopher DuCharme and James (Marissa) DuCharme; sisters, Jana (Matthew) Fischer and Brittany DuCharme; and his paternal grandmother, Janette DuCharme.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Richard DuCharme; his maternal grandparents, Robert (Janice) Check; and an infant brother, John Paul.

A celebration of Steven’s life is being planned for a future date, including a short graveside service, followed by a gathering of family and friends at the Eastman Ballpark.

The Garrity Funeral Home, of Prairie du Chien, is assisting the family.
