Geisler was county clerk for 24 years

Janet Geisler, Crawford County Clerk, has announced she will not seek re-election to the office of county clerk. She was elected to the position in 1996 and has served the people of Crawford County for the past 24 years, which makes her the longest serving county clerk.

In total, Geisler has worked for the county for a total of 41 years. There have been many changes in the county since she was first hired to work part-time in the Extension office in 1979. At that time, she also worked on the county’s switchboard. Some of her first duties included taking shorthand dictation on a daily basis and printing newsletters for 4-H and the Extension Homemakers.

“In 1987, I was fortunate enough to begin working in the county clerk’s office under the guidance of County Clerk Patricia Benish,” Geisler said, in a letter making her announcement.

She worked nine years as a deputy clerk before being elected to the position of county clerk. There have been many updates and changes since that time, she said, with the main update being the election process and the installation of voting machines.

“No longer did we have to wait until the early morning hours for paper ballots to be counted to know the election results. Posting election results on the website has been a big advantage to the voters and the media who were patiently waiting for election results,” Geisler explained.

During her tenure as county clerk, she received certificates for public management essentials, as well as professional development and master county clerk through the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay Office of Outreach and Extension Government Affairs.

As she departs the position, she wishes the best of luck to the next county clerk.

“Thank you to the voters of Crawford County for your confidence in me. I leave the office knowing that I did my best for the people of Crawford County,” she stated.
