Carrol G. “Bud” Polodna, 92, of Prairie du Chien, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020, at the Great River Care Center in McGregor, Iowa. 

He was born Jan. 21, 1928, in Prairie du Chien, the son of George and Elsie (Konichek) Polodna. 

He married Helen Stuckey on June 30, 1954, at St. John’s Church in Prairie du Chien. Carrol was descended from a long line of Bohemian craftsmen. He was a master carpenter, cabinetmaker and homebuilder. He was a member of the St. John’s Church Choir, taught Wisconsin Hunter Education classes for over 30 years, and was a member of The Wheelmen antique bicycle club. In earlier days, he was an avid downhill skier, long-distance cyclist and an accomplished student of Taekwondo. He took great pride in his service in the United States Navy. 

He is survived by his children, Stephen (Donna), Michael (Mary Jo), Mark, and Mary (Scott) Board; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Ray Ashbacher; numerous nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Rose Bauer. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Philip; a daughter-in-law, Carol; and his sisters, Louise Rod and Vivian Ashbacher.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, Feb. 21, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Monsignor Charles Stoetzel officiating, with interment in Evergreen Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Military honors will be accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020 at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien, where there will be a Knights of Columbus rosary at 6:30 p.m.
