Dorothy Ann Emilie (Baade) Bushkofsky, 89, died Friday, January 10, 2020, at her home in Elkader. She was born June 1, 1930, in Garnavillo Township, to Clarence and Hulda (Kalke) Baade. She was baptized June 29, 1930, confirmed, and united in marriage to Robert Bushkofsky on June 20, 1949, all at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center. Five sons were born to this union.

Dorothy graduated from Elkader High School and attended Upper Iowa University to obtain her teaching certificate. She taught country school on Gunder Road for several years before starting a family.

She will be best remembered as working at Wilke’s Grocery in Elkader and her famous raw dawg. Family was most important to Dorothy. She was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she worked with the ladies guild and other committees. She enjoyed working with her church family, especially her sisters at church functions, sales, and dinners. Dorothy loved to play cards, put puzzles together, work in her flower gardens and sitting outside cracking walnuts. She attended as many grandkids events as she could. She always sent birthday cards to ALL family members and was very hard on herself if she forgot. She will especially be missed by family and friends for her scrubbies that we received at Christmas. Dorothy was a friendly outgoing lady who had a beautiful smile for everyone.

Survivors include her sons, James (Vickie) Bushkofsky, Bruce (LaVonne) Bushkofsky, Lyle (Karmen) Bushkofsky, Roger (Michelle) Bushkofsky; daughter-in-law, Rachel Bushkofsky; 13 grandchildren, Dawn, Chad, Heather, Justin, Tara, Joshua, Nicklaus, Krista, Tracey, Crock, Candice, Mary and Shelly; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brother, Cletus Baade, sisters, Judy Schnurstein and Lorna (Dennis) Christeleit, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
