Geneva Ann Hoth, 87, of Monona, Iowa passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 22, 2019, surrounded by family at Gundersen Health Care, LaCrosse, Wisconsin. She was born on March 3, 1932, in rural Guttenberg, Iowa to Ray and Pearl (Taake) Marmann. She was raised in rural Elkader and attended Hanover Country School. Gen was baptized, confirmed and later united in marriage with Vernon Hoth on May 10, 1956, at Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader, Iowa.

Gen was a member of the St. Olaf Auxiliary Unit #388 and Peace United Church of Christ, along with being a homemaker and loving mother. She was employed over the years at St. Olaf Coop Grocery, Wilke’s Grocery in Monona, Iowa and Johnson’s Restaurant in Elkader, Iowa. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, bingo, playing cards, and polka music. Gen loved spending time with her family and she was blessed to celebrate fifty years of marriage with her loving husband.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Karen (Donald) Martindale of Monona, Iowa, Bradley (Brenda) Hoth of Farmersburg, Iowa, Debra (Jerry) Neuhaus of Monona, Iowa, Jim (Kathleen) Hoth of Marion, Iowa; grandchildren, Nathan (Helen) Martindale, Ryan Martindale (girlfriend, Christina Harbaugh), Brett Hoth (girlfriend, Mollie Murphy), Kelly (Jake) Shaw, Chad (Brianna) Hoth, Justin Neuhaus, Joshua (Jena) Neuhaus, Stacey (Andrew) Clemens, Branden Hoth, Jamie Hoth, Katelyn Hoth, Morgan Hoth; ten great grandchildren and one expected great grandchild this coming March; one sister, Elvera Palas; sisters-in-law, Nancy Marmann, Betty Marmann, Shirley Marmann, Janice Eno, Marlene Marmann & Ila Mae Mueller; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; her parents; her in-laws, Elmer and Esther Hoth; grandson, Daniel Martindale; brother and sister-in-law Ray (Margaret) Marmann Jr.; brothers, Vurnell Marmann, Everett Marmann, Donald Marmann, Allen Dale Marmann, Veryl Dean Marmann; and brothers-in-law, John Palas, Eugene Hoth and Ronald Mueller. Visitation was held from 3-6 pm on Thursday, December 26, 2019, at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona, Iowa. There was also a one-hour visitation before services at the church on Friday. Funeral services were at 11 am on Friday, December 27, 2019, at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader, Iowa with Rev. Jon Haack as the officiant. Interment followed at East Side Cemetery, Elkader, Iowa. Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elkader, Iowa, assisted the family with arrangements.
