John C. Mundt, 54, of Prairie du Chien, passed away at his home Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019.

He was born Dec. 8, 1965, the son of Kelly and Ruth (Fry) Mundt. John married Vickie Valley on Oct. 3, 1997. He was greatly involved in the Prairie du Chien community as a board member at the Fort Crawford Museum, Director of the Community Theatre, and was featured as “Mr. Prairie du Chien” in the Chamber of Commerce commercial. John was the founder of Fallfire, an autumn creativity contest, and the creator of an independent comic book named “The Adventures of Monkey.” His art appeared in “The Wizard of Oz” books and has been displayed at the Wisconsin Capitol Building. John was the official artist for the annual International Mole Day Celebration. He was an avid collector of many things, including NASCAR memorabilia, ties, Star Wars, and anything he found interesting. His favorite pastime was his many adventures with the love of his life, his wife Vickie, traveling and exploring the Midwest. Well-known for his caricatures, you would be hard pressed to find a home in the area that did not own a piece of his artwork signed John Mundt, Esq.

John is survived by his wife, Vickie; his sister, Kristin Mundt (Michael Statz); twin nephews, Liam and Aidan Statz; his brother-in-law, Ron (Corrie) Valley and their children, Colton, Alanna, Bryce and Gage; sister-in-law, Sheri (Don) Peterson; along with his mother-in-law, Karen Valley.

John was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Steve Valley.

A Memorial Service will be Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 1 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel, in Prairie du Chien, with Pastor Andy Doll officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of services. To leave condolences for the family, go to www.garrityfuneralhome.com.
