On Oct. 27, a Crawford County deputy conducted a traffic stop on a 2005 Dodge Ram truck on Main St. in the village of Soldiers Grove. The deputy identified the driver as Kayla Kuykendall, 31, Viola, and the front passenger as Laura Schaller, 32, Soldiers Grove.

During the initial contact, the deputy observed the passenger to be consuming an open beer during the traffic stop, and also determined that Kuykendall did not have a valid driver’s license. While speaking to Kuykendall, the deputy observed methamphetamine paraphernalia partially hanging from the pocket of a jacket Kuykendall was wearing. Furthermore, Kuykendall displayed indicators of narcotics impairment. A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted and several grams of THC wax were located. Kuykendall is on probation through the state of Wisconsin for methamphetamine charges, and Schaller is on bond through Crawford County for prior narcotics charges.

While in custody, both women were observed attempting to conceal items within their person. With the assistance of jail staff, it was determined that Schaller had a bag containing methamphetamine and methamphetamine paraphernalia concealed. In addition, it was determined that Kuykendall had a bag containing a large amount of methamphetamine concealed on her person.

Schaller was booked into the Crawford County Jail for alleged possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine paraphernalia, obstructing, misdemeanor bail jumping and possession of THC. Kuykendall was booked into the jail for alleged operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of a restricted controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, obstructing and a probation violation.
