The coming weekend is Prairie du Chien’s big weekend to celebrate Halloween, trick-or-treating, costume contests, fun and games.

Bring the kids to Blackhawk Avenue on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 1 to 3 p.m., for the city’s annual trick-or-treating at downtown businesses. Orange pumpkins will be in the windows of participating  merchants.

The route starts with Mississippi Meats, Radio Shack and True Value, then passes through small business row, up and down Blackhawk Avenue. It also includes Backstage Pass on Wacouta Avenue, A Cut Above and Café Hope on North Beaumont Road and the River District Inn and Waterfront Hotel on Main Street.

While visiting downtown Prairie du Chien, be sure to vote for your favorite downtown business scarecrow or witch entry in the PdC Main Street contest at either. Vote at The Local Oven or The Pickett Fence. Pictures will also be posted on the PdC Main Street Facebook page and viewers can cast their votes there. The winning business will take home a traveling trophy.

Throughout trick-or-treating, Dan Moris will play Halloween music for all to enjoy from the Sports World parking lot. Crawford County K-9 Breck, a Prairie du Chien fire truck and Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter will also be staged in the lot for the little ones interested in these animals and local heroes.

On Sunday, Oct. 27, continue the fun by attending the Little Monster’s Bash at Hoffman Hall. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., kids can have some fun with music, costumes, a cake walk and concessions.

There is a small admission to enter for kids ages 3 and up. Then, game tickets can be purchased for a quarter each. Bring a non-perishable item for the food pantry and receive a free game ticket. Up to six free tickets can be earned this way.

There will also be raffle baskets for adults to check out.

The bash is the 14th annual event hosted by the Prairie du Chien Correctional Institution with proceeds going to Wisconsin Special Olympics Polar Plunge and Wisconsin Badger Camp.
