Bible Baptist Church of Prairie du Chien will be hosting a 50th Anniversary Celebration from Sunday, Sept. 22 through Tuesday Sept. 24.

Pastor Andy Doll said there will be a big service at the church beginning at 10 a.m. on Sunday, with a large luncheon to follow. There will also be a video presentation and former pastors and their wives will be honored.

Doll said there will be numerous other activities on Monday and Tuesday, beginning at 6:30 p.m. each evening.

Doll noted that the Bible Baptist Church was formed on the fourth Sunday in September in 1969. There were 12 people who attended the first service, which was held at 401 E. Cass Street. The original 12 included Pastor Russell Bode, Joan Bode, Tina Bode, Scott Bode, Rena Bode, Lora Bode, Geneva Boom, Laura Lastovka, Mable Munson, Gaylord Schlitter, Viola Schlitter, and LeNeva Schlitter.

Construction of the church at its current location at 1110 N. Marquette Road began in 1972 and the building was functional in the summer of 1973.

“Now, more than 250 people attend on a regular Sunday,” said Doll who has been pastor for the past 15 years. “We’re really looking forward to the 50th Anniversary Celebration. We have people from throughout the United States and even some people coming from outside of the U.S.”

Over the years, the church has undergone several improvements, including the addition of seven acres, the construction of a school wing, a gymnasium, a bus building, and the north building about one-eighth-of-a-mile north of the church.

“All former attendees and new faces are invited to come to our celebration and to enjoy a look back at five decades of God’s Grace,” said Doll. “We hope to keep expanding the congregation. The Lord has been really good to us. There has been a lot of growth, and our services are highly attended. That’s exciting.”
