LaDean Fischer, 78, of Guttenberg, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, at Mercy One in Dubuque.

Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 9, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Gary Hatcher. Visitation was before services at the church.

Interment was at Bethel Cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

LaDean was born on Nov. 18, 1940, in Guttenberg, the son of Clarence and Arlene (Moser) Fischer.

LaDean received his education in Guttenberg and graduated with the class of 1958. On Feb. 3, 1962, LaDean was united in marriage with Carol Reth at Trinity Lutheran Church, and the couple was later blessed with two children, Deb and Scott.

In his youth LaDean worked on a farm and drove semi for several years. He later ran a fuel delivery tank wagon service for 40 years. He served as a captain of the Guttenberg Fire Department for 35 years and also served on the Guttenberg Police Department for 13 years. He later worked for the City of Guttenberg’s maintenance department and then went on to drive dump truck.

LaDean leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Carol; children, Deb (Don) Bries and Scott (Sarah) Fischer, all of Guttenberg; five grandchildren and their spouses, Brandon (Erin), Brian (Kelsey), Brianna (Seth), Emily (Ricky) and Rochel (friend Quincy); 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Lee (Cathy) Fischer and many other relatives and friends. 

LaDean was preceded in death by his parents. 

In lieu of flowers and all styles of sympathy, memorials may be sent to 206 N. Bluff St., Guttenberg, IA 52052.
