Filing now open...City and school elections coming up
By Shelia Tomkins
This year Iowa residents will see a change in the timing of school board elections. Previously those elections were held in September; going forward school elections will coincide with municipal elections, which will take place this year on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Filing opened Aug. 26 for those seeking municipal or school board seats. The last date to file is Thursday, Sept. 19.
Nomination papers and candidate guides are available online at the Iowa Secretary of State’s website: www.sos.iowa.gov.
School board candidates may also pick up papers at the office of board secretary Dave Schlueter at the Guttenberg business office. Municipal candidate papers are available at the Guttenberg city office. Completed nomination papers must be filed at the office of the Clayton County Auditor in Elkader.

Guttenberg city council terms expiring at the end of the year are those held by Austin Greve and Jane Parker.
