Alma Walsh passed into God’s arms on July 20, 2019, at 101 years old. 

She was born on the family farm in Haney Valley to Jessie Spencer Schwert and Otto Schwert. 

Alma was born on Feb. 16, 1918. She had one brother, Kenneth Schwert. She attended Haney Valley Grade School, Seneca and Gays Mills High Schools. She graduated from Gays Mills in 1935, Fennimore Normal School in 1937, and La Crosse State University in 1965. She taught elementary school for 38 years in one-room rural schools in Crawford County, Cambridge, Johnson Creek, and lastly 23 years in Delafield. She married Leon Walsh in 1938 and they had three children. 

She is survived by her son, John (Mary); daughter, JeanAnn Walsh-Doud; and son-in-law Joseph Kelley; six grandchildren, Patti Earp Heck (Larry), Kevin Kelley (Brooke), Maureen Acker (Thomas), Mollie Burd (Jeffrey), Sean Walsh, Joseph Walsh; five great-grandchildren, Olivia Lamoreux (Isaac), Morgan Earp, Brianna Fair (Zachery), Rachael Acker, Grace Carlson; and two great-great-grandchildren, Lydia Lamoreux and Thomas Fair. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon; a daughter, Mary Kelley; son-in-law, Roy Doud; parents, Otto and Jessie; brother, Kenneth; sisters-in-law, Margaret Schwert, Ada Mook, Lorena Walsh, Alice Morgan, Lola Dunn; and brothers-in-law Fritz and Paul Walsh. 

Funeral services will be on Saturday, Aug. 10, at 11 a.m., at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Seneca, with Fr. Eugene Wolf officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at St. Patrick’s Church Hall from 10 a.m. until service time.
