James M. Connolly, 61, of Delhi, and formerly of Guttenberg and Cascade, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2019, in Delhi.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, July 31, at Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, where a wake service will be held at 4 p.m. Friends may also call after 9 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 1, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 1, at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Cascade, conducted by Rev. Douglas Loecke.

Burial will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Guttenberg.

Casketbearers will be John Connolly, Austin Rogers, Jonathan Keune, Matt Hoefler, Joe Kruse, and Shane Higdon. Honorary pallbearers will be T.J. Schmitt and Issac Franzen.

Jim was born Nov. 24, 1957, in Dubuque, son of John L. and Therese L. (Sweeney) Connolly. He is a 1976 graduate of the former Aquin High School in Cascade. He farmed and worked in construction. He also drove truck for Green Trucking. 

Jim liked to work hard and play hard, and would always greet you with a smile. He loved hunting and was always after that 12 point buck. He enjoyed his many stock car competitions and demolition derby entries. He also enjoyed horse shoes, shooting pool, boating and riding his Harley. 

He is survived by his wife, Roberta Nieland of Delhi; one daughter, Carrie (Doug) Jackson of Marion, one step-son, Zach LeGrand of Guttenberg; three grandchildren, Lauren, Ava and Erica Jackson; four siblings, Mark (Mary Kay) Connolly of Provitan, Ellen (Mark) Hosch of Eldridge, Joyce (Jim) Rogers of Iowa City and Jill Connolly (Ron Rooney) of Dubuque; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Eric Connolly on Dec. 22, 2006.

In lieu of flowers a James M. Connolly memorial has been established.
