Wayne Bruce Obershaw, 67, of Guttenberg, died Friday, July 5, 2019, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital after a long battle with cancer, which he bravely fought until the end.

Visitation was Tuesday, July 9, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg

There was a private family service.

Bruce was born on April 14, 1952, in Dubuque, the son of Guy and Doris (Bernhardt) Obershaw.

Bruce graduated from the Cassville, Wis., High School and on Feb. 17, 1973, he was united in marriage with LuAnn Leliefeld at the United Methodist Church in Guttenberg and the couple later welcomed two children, Thomas and Shelley. Bruce spent almost 20 years working for Flexsteel Industries in Dubuque before going into a successful career as a mechanic and small business owner of Guttenberg Auto Service Center. He ran the business with LuAnn until her passing in 2011 and then retired in 2017.

Bruce loved spending his time in the woods hunting and hanging out with his “little buddy” Tucker. He was always willing and able to lend a hand to friends and neighbors in need. He was an honorary member of the Guttenberg Police Department and enjoyed his time with the Eagles Club.

Bruce will be forever loved and cherished by his two children, Thomas (Jared Gruhl) Obershaw of Denver, Colo., and Shelley (Jason) Hatlan of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; grandson, Tucker Hatlan; step grandson, Arthur Hatlan; siblings, Marilyn Treder of Beloit, Wis., Sandy (Mike) Smyth of Dubuque and Richard (Elaine) Obershaw of Lakeville, Minn.; beloved in-laws Dennis (Nel) Leliefeld, Kathy Phelan, Kevin (Beth) Leliefeld, Terry (Mara) Leliefeld, and Larry (Rona) Leliefeld along with many other relatives and friends.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; wife LuAnn in 2011; four siblings, Walter Obershaw, Patricia Smith, Robert Obershaw, Ruth Blackburn, and brothers-in- law, Dennis Phelan and James Leliefeld.
