Donald A. Schiffman, 87, of Bagley, passed away at home on Thursday, June 20, 2019, with his two daughters by his side after a courageous two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer.

He was born at home near Hurricane, on May 18, 1932, the son of Harry A. and Virginia A. (Pickett) Schiffman. Don was married to Eileen M. Champion on Sept 10, 1967; she was his loving wife for 51 years. For over 30 of those years, Don was Eileen’s fulltime caregiver so that she could remain in her own home until she passed away on June 16, 2018. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids hunting, fishing and playing cards. Don also liked traveling in his motor home to casinos or Door County with his wife. Don and his business partner purchased what is now known as River of Lakes Resort in 1959. He then worked for decades successfully turning raw farmland into a flourishing recreational area. Even after the sale of the resort, Don continued “making the rounds” visiting friends and neighbors and watching over things when they were away.

Don is survived by two daughters: Shelli (Rick) McLimans and Sue (Mick) Redman; six grandchildren: Amber (Brian) Zart, Adam (Bethany) McLimans, Tara (Matt) Adams, Wendy (Cody) Kirschbaum, Eric (Alie) Redman, and Jamie (Garrett Knapp) Redman; nine great-grandchildren; siblings: Doug (Marion) Schiffman, Shari (James) Udelhoven, Debbie Dirksen, and Darlene O’Farrell; two sisters-in-law: Shirley and Connie Schiffman; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, and wife, Eileen, Don was preceded in death by his siblings: Ilene Tracy, Diana (Robert) Pasold, David, Dick and Dale Schiffman.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, June 24, at Zion Lutheran Church in Bagley with Rev. Pamela Strakeljahn officiating. Burial with Military Honors was in the Bagley Cemetery.

In lieu of plants and flowers, a Donald A. Schiffman Memorial Fund has been established. The Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Bloomington is entrusted with his services.
