Kevin Robert Dennler
April 24, 1959-June 5, 2019

Kevin Robert Dennler, 60, of Elkader, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at MercyOne Hospital in Elkader. He was born April 24, 1959, in West Union, Iowa to Robert (Bob) and Jane (Neylan) Dennler.  Kevin attended Central Community High School and graduated in 1978. He was baptized, received his first communion, and was confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Elkader.

Kevin lived his entire life on the family farm and was a part of the land. As soon as Kevin was old enough to help, he was out working on the farm alongside his best friend and mentor; his father. Kevin would rather be on a tractor doing field work than anywhere else. When he was not farming, he could often be found working on equipment and numerous projects. Even though Kevin did not attend any type of training, his mechanical and carpentry skills were exceptional along with a deep pride in his work and the quality with which it was completed.

These are all materialistic things, but what truly mattered was Kevin’s kind heart and love of family. He was never more than a phone call away for his nieces and nephews. Along with caring for the farm, he continued to care for Bob and Jane in retirement. Even after they moved from the farm, he faithfully visited them at least once or twice a day.

Kevin’s passing has left a space that will never be filled in the lives of his family and friends. Even in death though he was helping others; Kevin was an organ donor and will be able to help almost 200 strangers with his generosity.

Survivors include: his siblings Carol (Jim) Gordon of Elkader, Keith (Paulette) Dennler of Forest Lake, MN, Karen (Andy) Koehn of Elgin, IA and Kurt (NiCole) Dennler of Elkader; nieces and nephews, Danielle Koehn Elkader, Nick (Nicole) Dennler Belmond, IA, Sara (Trey) Bodensteiner of Elgin IA, Reese Dennler of Forest Lake MN, Ariel and Drake Dennler of Elkader and one great-nephew, Beau Dennler of Belmond, IA.  Special family friends Mark Stannard and the Brandon and Jill Stannard family, along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Jane Dennler.

Visitation was Thursday, June 13, 2019, from 5 to 6:45 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elkader with a Prayer Service at 6:45. There was also a one-hour visitation before Mass at the church on Friday. A Mass of Resurrection was held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 14, 2019, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father John Haugen as celebrant.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home & Cremation Service assisted the family.
