Valedictorian Lindsey Lund & Salutatorian Adam Martin

Lindsey Lund has been named the valedictorian and Adam Martin salutatorian of the 2019 Wauzeka-Steuben High School graduating class. These two and their classmates will be honored at graduation Saturday, May 25, at 10 a.m. at the school.

Valedictorian Lindsey Lund is the daughter of Ryan Lund and Shauntelle Ray. She plans to attend UW-Eau Claire in the fall to major in biology or chemistry. 

Lindsey has been active throughout her high school career while excelling academically. In the classroom, she has earned high honors all four years, and garnered herself an academic letter and four pins. Furthermore, she’s been involved in a number of extra-curricular activities over her four-year career. She participated in football, basketball, cheerleading and track, achieved varsity letters in football and track and served as captain of the cheerleading squad. In addition, Lindsey is currently active in numerous clubs and organizations, including FCCLA, Hornet Council, math team, National Honor Society, school newspaper, science club, yearbook team, teen court, band and chorus. In the past, Lindsey has been active in FFA, forensics, PALS, Spanish club and Skills USA. She has held numerous leadership roles within these clubs and organizations. She is currently a senior class officer. 

The summer before her senior year, Lindsey was a Wisconsin Ambassador of Music and participated in their 2018 European Tour. She also attended Wisconsin Badger Girls State as a 2018 delegate. Over the years, Lindsey has given back to her community through volunteerism. She visits local nursing homes, donates blood to the American Red Cross, assisted with local roadside cleanup efforts, and participated in a mission trip and service project to Detroit. Outside of school, she has worked at Prairie Cinema for the past two years. 

Lindsey said her success in high school has been with great thanks to her parents and grandmother for their support and motivation. She is also grateful for her teachers “for always making themselves as available as possible for assistance with homework, problems, etc. and for the relentless support they show toward students in all aspects.” 

Salutatorian Adam Martin is the son of Phil and Kathy Martin. He plans to attend UW-La Crosse for three years, followed by two years at UW-Platteville to earn dual degrees in physics and engineering. 

He has been a busy bee throughout his high school career. He has achieved academic high honors all four years, earning himself an academic letter and four pins for his excellence in the classroom. Adam has participated in cross country and track all four years, earning varsity letters and numerous accolades for his athletic performances. Adam has been active in the National Honor Society, math club, Skills USA, science club, Spanish club, band and chorus. Within these clubs and organizations, Adam has excelled and been awarded various awards and recognitions. 

Outside of school, Adam is very active in 4-H, his church, and on his family’s farm. In January 2019, Adam participated in the Advanced Space Academy at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala. Over the years, Adam has also given back to his community through volunteerism. He has visited nursing homes, assisted the American Legion Auxiliary with their bingo fundraisers, worked at several American Red Cross blood drives, helped with various clean-up efforts, operated food stands, and helped construct the new grandstand at the high school ballpark. 

Adam shared his appreciation for his parents and teachers for pushing him “to excel in everything [he does], from academics to sports.”
