Larry J. Johanningmeier, 68 of Harpers Ferry passed away Wednesday, April 24, at his home surrounded by his family. 

He was born Dec. 5, 1950, the son of Don and Shirley (Standorf) Johanningmeier. 

Larry graduated from MFL Community High School in 1969. He served in the US Army during the Viet Nam era at Fort Lewis, Wash. He married Bobbi Schissel on May 20, 1983, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in McGregor, Iowa. Larry worked as an over the road truck driver for 30 years with David Kurk Trucking, Rowley Interstate and most recently Dillman Equipment. He also worked in construction with Gingerich Construction and built his own home 32 years ago. He enjoyed cars, guns, hunting, fishing and woodwork.

 He is survived by his wife of nearly 36 years, Bobbi, his children, Eric (Brandi) and Miles (Alixandra) Johanningmeier and Melissa (Shane) Hartson, his sister Lynn Johanningmeier, his grandchildren, Cole, Adrian, Aria, Daniel, Katie, Kimberly, Aleyna, Hayley, Alexis and Greyson, great grandchildren, Gannon, Oakleigh, Danta, Bayleigh, Makya, Noah, Konnor, Tyler, Courtney, Leroy and Kiara along with three great-great grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 12 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien, Pastor Bruce Hanson officiating, with interment in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Monona, IA. Military honors will be accorded graveside. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
