On Monday afternoon, the Lady Blackhawks kicked off the season with a great start against Coulee Christian. Prairie du Chien went on to win 1-0.

Madalyn Roche stepped up to play goalkeeper for the match and tallied 2 saves. The Prairie defense did a great job keeping the ball pressed up in the Coulee half of the field. Caitlyn Nolan held strong at sweeper, preventing any break-aways while she was in the back line. Jenna Holler stepped up to help hold the middle with Nolan. Gracie Colson and Kennedy Kirschbaum both held the sidelines as the remainder of the back line. Kirschbaum had a phenomenal run across the field to stop one run down the line on the opposite side when Coulee made a final break for the goal.

Gabby Toberman and Brytta Sagedahl controlled the middle of the field, volleying it up in a controlled attack. Both have started strong this season and make a daunting pair in the middle.

In the attack, Prairie dominated with a total of 30 shots on goal. The Lady Hawks were goal hungry and were led in shots, with eight apiece, by Grace Pedretti and Kierstyn Rogers. They were followed closely by Sagedahl with five and Toberman and Kylee Weber with three each. Grace Pedretti scored the line goal of the game after many successful crashes of the goal, just slipping one past the Coulee Christian goalkeeper in the second half.

Weber, Kaitlyn Waller, and Kara Katzung drove the ball up along the sidelines to cross the ball to the crashing attackers. Pedretti, Rogers and Sophie Miller were persistent and did a phenomenal job attacking upfield in pairs. Despite lacking the size or strength of the Coulee defenders, they used their speed and quick thinking to have many opportunities.
