On March 21, at 8 p.m., a deputy of the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office made contact with Jesse M. Nash, 32, Soldiers Grove, on Latham Road near the intersection of Davig Ridge in the township of Utica. The deputy observed Nash, whose driver’s license is suspended, operating a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix. Nash is on bond through Crawford County for a pending drug-related charge.

While a second deputy was arriving on scene, a 2006 Saturn Ion was observed driving southbound on Latham Road, near the intersection of Davig Ridge Road, at a slow rate of speed. The second deputy made contact with the driver, Kathryn J. Grant, 40, Soldiers Grove, for not wearing a seatbelt. While speaking with Grant, the deputy observed the “pipe” end of a glass smoking device, used to ingest methamphetamine, inside her front sweatshirt pocket. Grant was instructed to exit the vehicle. During a search of Grant’s pockets, the following items were located and tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine: a glass smoking device containing a white crystal-like residue and a small baggie containing a white crystal-like substance. During a search of the interior of the vehicle, items associated with ingesting methamphetamine and a white crystal-like substance were located. Following the traffic stop, standardized field sobriety tests were administered with Grant, due to suspected drug-related impairment.

As a result of these investigations, Nash was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a restricted controlled substance and felony bail jumping. Nash was issued a citation for operating a motor vehicle after suspension. Grant was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a restricted controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine paraphernalia. Grant was also cited for not wearing a seatbelt, no insurance and a municipal citation for possession of drug paraphernalia.
