The Lady Timberwolves’ Skylar White goes up for a score in the sectional semifinal.

Top seeded Black Hawk, an undefeated powerhouse this season, defeated second seeded River Ridge 58-27 in a WIAA Division 5 Sectional semifinal in Mineral Point in girls basketball Thursday night.

River Ridge ended a very good season with a 21-3 overall record and a 10-0 mark in the Six Rivers West. The Lady Timberwolves were the regional champions and the undefeated outright conference champions.

“We are very proud of this team. They have been working hard in the off season since seventh grade,” said River Ridge Coach Caron Townsend. “They were the first group of middle school girls to come up in the mornings at 6:30 a.m. to lift weights, shoot and do ball handling. Five years later, they are undefeated in conference (first time since 2004); conference champions (last was 2014) and have won back to back regional championships which we haven’t done since 2005. They are a testament to what hard work and dedication can result in. We are very appreciative of our support from parents, fans, pep band and dancers. They gave us an awesome atmosphere to play in last night in Mineral Point.”

Black Hawk took control, 32-11, at the half Thursday night. They then won the second half 26-16.

Black Hawk improved to 25-0 on the season. They were 12-0 in the Six Rivers East.
