Prairie girls are regional champs
On Feb. 25, the Prairie du Chien girls basketball team hosted Wisconsin Dells in Regional Final action.
Once again, Prairie came out hot and jumped to a 8-2 lead. The Dells continued to fight back to tie the game halfway through the first half. However, PdC played solid defense and was able to go into the half up 25-13.
Prairie and the Dells continued to trade baskets at the start of the second half. However, the Dells fought back and brought the score to within 4 with less than 5 minutes to go.
As they did previously, Prairie knocked down free throws to prevail with a final of 61-48 and claim the regional championship.
Lily Krahn led PdC with 22. Macey Banasik added 14 and 6 boards. Gabby Ritchie added 13 points, going 7 for 8 from the free throw line. Makenzie Knapp added 5, Allison Allbee added 4, Abby Feye chipped in 2, and Ella Hager finished with 1.
Prairie du Chien improved to 20-1 on the season. Wisconsin Dells finished at 19-5.
Top-seeded Prairie, the fourth-ranked team in Division 3, will travel to Madison Edgewood on Feb. 28 to take on second-seeded Platteville in the sectional semifinal game.
