January 20, 1925 to February 21, 2019

Ida Mae Schultz, 94, of Elkader, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2019, at Tower Living Center in Garnavillo. She was born January 20, 1925, eight miles south of Waukon in Allamakee County, Franklin Township, to Sankey and Minnie (Homan) Van Gorder. She was baptized and confirmed at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. Ida Mae attended all rural schools.

She was united in marriage to Wilbur Schultz on April 19, 1944.  They had three daughters, Patsy (Mrs. Russ Belden), Shirley (Mrs. Wes Vanderiede) and Dianne (deceased.) They farmed part of their lives then she worked 8½ years as a waitress at the Pastime Café, then as checker at Dean’s and Kline’s Super Market for almost 15 years.

Ida Mae loved to dance, read and be with family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Pat (Russ) Belden and Shirley (Wes) Vanderiede; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Geneva) Van Gorder and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Ida Mae was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter, Dianne at birth; a son-in-law; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one great-grandson; a sister, Grace Erickson and two brothers, Milton and Les Van Gorder.

A visitation was held from 10 a.m. until service time at Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkader. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 25, 2019, at Bethany Lutheran Church with Rev. Jon Haack officiating. Interment followed at 1 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Monona, Iowa
