Doris Jean Moellering, 95, of Garnavillo, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019.

Services will be held at a later date.

Doris was born the daughter of Reuben and Clara (Schelhammer) Bernhard, Nov. 7, 1923, in Giard Township, Clayton County. Doris attended Froelich Country School, graduated from Monona High School in 1941, and attended two years at Coe College in Cedar Rapids.

She was united in marriage to Aviation Cadet Arthur Moellering Jr. on June 12, 1943, in Manhattan, Kan. After military service they lived in Garnavillo and raised six children.

Doris was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, American Legion Auxiliary and numerous card clubs. She worked in the Garnavillo School Food Service for 33 years. After retirement she traveled with a local tour group to numerous European countries and much of the U.S.

Left to cherish her memory are her six children, Lou (James) Ratliff of Crossville, Tenn., Ann (Fred) Diffenderfer of Amanda, Ohio., A. Walter Moellering of Garnavillo, Robert (Andrea) Moellering, of Frankfort, Ky., Jon Moellering of Garnavillo, and Sara (Lee) Pattison of Garnavillo; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant daughter, Beth; infant brother, Wesley; and sister, Joyce Hedemann.
