PdC wrestlers win SPASH Duals
On Saturday, Jan. 12, the PDC grapplers traveled to Stevens Point for the SPASH Duals. These duals are made up of two, five-team pools. A team wrestles all teams in their pool to determine their placement match. A year ago, PDC was crowned champs, so they were looking for the repeat.
PDC would win their pool by the following: PDC 53 - DC Everest 21, PDC 77 - SPASH JV 6, PDC 38 - Oconto Falls 36, PDC 78 - Sussex Hamilton 0.
That would put the state’s fifth-ranked Blackhawks in the championship to take on SPASH. SPASH would start out hot, leading 24-0 after four matches.
Keenan Holley would receive a forfeit at 132# to get PDC on the board. At 138#, Reid Koenig would secure four takedowns, a couple on inside trips, before decking his opponent with a third period fall. At 145#, Traeton Saint would work his opponent over with nothing but takedowns and near fall points off cradles and double arm bars en route to a 16-0 technical fall.
At 152#, Bradyn Saint would do more working over, leading 7-0 before pinning his opponent with a half nelson. At 170#, Tyler Smock would also deliver with a comfortable 7-1 lead before pinning his opponent. Ben Riter followed suit at 182# with an outside cradle for a fall.
At 220#, Colten Wall’s 4-2 victory would put the Blackhawks up 38-33 heading into the final match. At 285#, Jerrod Osterkamp would secure the team victory by stalling his opponent out in the third period.
The Blackhawks would win 44-33 to take home the trophy. On the day, the Blackhawks would win 52 matches against 15 losses. PDC wrestlers winning all five of their matches were: Keenan Holley, Traeton Saint, and Colten Wall.
