Blackhawk wrestlers take down Hornets
Junior Isaac Avery has a tight lock en route to a first-period fall against his Richland Center opponent. The fifth-ranked Blackhawks cruised to a 60-12 victory.
Another SWC foe, another win. The beat continues for the fifth-ranked PdC grapplers as they dismantled Richland Center 60-12 on Thursday evening in front of a raucous bunch of PdC wrestling faithful. Prior to the meet, Traeton Saint and Reid Koenig were presented plaques detailing their 100 career wins. Following that, a great number of local wrestling sponsors were recognized and thanked for their generosity in helping the team achieve their goals and be able to travel throughout the state. Brian and Jeananne Dillman were also recognized and thanked, as they have very generously purchased a new competition mat for the wrestling team.
Wrestling started at 106#, with Nick Mara receiving a forfeit. There was a double forfeit at 113#, followed by Chase Fisher receiving a forfeit at 120#. At 126#, Chase Watson would score a first-period takedown and hit a switch off the whistle in period two. Unfortunately, Chase got caught and pinned in period three.
At 132#, Keenan Holley was down 2-0 going into the third period when he locked up an outside cradle for three near fall points to take the lead. Keenan couldn’t keep control and gave up a reversal to lose a close one 4-3.
At 138#, two ranked wrestlers would meet. Reid Koenig came out on fire in period one with a takedown and a couple of different cradle pinning combinations to go up 9-3 after the first period. In period two, Koenig would get another takedown and a tight near side cradle to pin his opponent. At 145#, Traeton Saint’s opponent would walk into a head throw and get decked by Saint in just 19 seconds.
At 152#, Bradyn Saint would bring much energy and take a 5-0 lead after one period with a takedown and three near fall points. In period two, Saint would get a couple more takedowns and go up 9-2 heading into the third period. Saint would get a quick escape, hit a beautiful duck under and half his opponent to his back for a fall.
Isaac Avery would continue the pinning ways at 160#, with a takedown and butcher combination for the pin. Tyler Smock, 170#, and Zach Swiggum, 182#, both received forfeits. At 195#, Grant Martin would keep bringing the heat. After a takedown, Martin would find himself down 4-2 heading into period two. Martin’s opponent would choose down, and Martin would capitalize with a half nelson for the pin.
At 220#, two more ranked wrestlers would toe the line. After a scoreless first period, Colton Wall would get an escape and a takedown to go up 3-1 after two periods. In period three, Wall gave up an escape and a takedown off a high post scramble to lose a tight one 4-3. At 285#, Jerrod Osterkamp closed out the night with a second period escape and a takedown to his opponent’s back for a 60-12 Blackhawk win.
