One airlifted after crash on Christmas

A Christmas morning head-on crash resulted in one young adult being airlifted to a larger hospital for treatment of her injuries, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Department. 

Just after 9 a.m., a two-vehicle crash was reported on Highway 18 south of County C in Bridgeport. Officers arrived on scene to find that Autumn Starrett, 19, of Prairie du Chien, had been driving east on Highway 18 in her 2000 Ford Taurus. She crossed the center line, striking a westbound 2017 Chevy Volt, driven by Alan Jentz, 55, of Beaver Dam. After colliding head-on, both vehicles came to a rest in the ditches on opposite sides of the highway.

Authorities said Starrett was trapped in the back seat of her vehicle and had to be extricated. Jentz was also located in the back seat of his vehicle. 

Both victims were transported to Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien, where Starrett was later transported via medflight. The vehicles were both towed from the scene by Bob’s Towing, of Prairie du Chien.

Assisting at the scene were the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department, West Grant Rescue Squad, TriState Ambulance, Bloomington Fire Department, Bagley First Responders and the Wisconsin State Patrol.

The crash remains under investigation.
