William L. “Bill” Batson, 84, of Prairie du Chien and formerly of Yorkville, Ill., passed away Monday, Dec. 3, 2018, at the Great River Care Center. 

He was born Jan. 25, 1934, in southern Missouri, the son of Elmer and Sarah Pauline (Wells) Batson. 

He married Carol Woodrick on April 24, 1954, in Aurora, Ill. She preceded him in death on Nov. 27, 2014. Bill worked as a beer deliveryman for Stroh’s and Miller High Life. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He will be missed by his friends at “The Port.” 

He is survived by his sons, William (Lois) Batson Jr. of N. Ridgeville, Ohio, and Michael Batson of Prairie du Chien; his daughter Linda Gifford of Prairie du Chien; his sister Barbara (Don) Maxwell off Baltimore, Md.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by her parents, his wife, a brother Dean, a son-in-law John Gifford and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be Friday, Dec. 7, at 6 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel in Prairie du Chien with Rev. Bruce Hanson officiating. Interment will be Saturday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m. at the Lawn Ridge Cemetery in Rochelle, Ill., with Pastor Joy Alsop officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 3 p.m. until the time of services.
