On Nov. 28, the Prairie du Chien Police Department responded to the 1000 block of East Wisconsin Street for a report of a theft of a firearm.

Officers were told that a Taurus 9mm handgun was removed from a residence without the owner’s consent. A short list of individuals who would have known about the handgun was presented by the victim. Multiple valuable items were not removed from the residence in favor of the handgun.

During the course of the investigation, evidence was obtained and Brandon Jacobson, 27, Harpers Ferry, was interviewed by police. Jacobson denied any involvement in the theft of the firearm.

Shortly after being interviewed, Jacobson called the victim and claimed that he had just found the missing handgun in his vehicle, under his driver’s seat. Officers responded to Jacobson’s location and arrested Jacobson. Jacobson was transported to the Crawford County Jail and booked in. Possible charges include theft of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon, burglary, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and bail jumping.

The firearm was recovered and logged as evidence at the police department.

Also, as a result of this investigation, a stolen portable radio that belonged to a local first responder group was recovered. During the past week, unknown radio communications were received by the Crawford County Communication Center.

These radio communications were a result of unauthorized people using a portable radio meant to be used by essential first responder personnel. This investigation is ongoing and further arrests may result.
