Prairie girls beat Lancaster
Tuesday night, Prairie du Chien volleyball honored Breast Cancer Awareness Month as well as Robbie Mason in her fight against cancer. It was also Senior Night.
With an awesome crowd, the Blackhawks took on the Lancaster Arrows. The Blackhawks started off their very emotional night winning set 1 (25-20) and set 2 (25-13), but the Arrows didn’t give up, winning set 3 (25-23). The Blackhawks didn’t let it go to a 5th set, winning set 4 (25-20).
Caitlin Pattison had a big night leading the team with 12 kills, followed by Emily Groom and Alexis Nolan each with 10. Brytta Sagedahl had 3, Kylee Weber and Gabby Toberman each had 2 and Kaitlyn Buenzli 1. Gabby Toberman, Emily Groom, Kaitlyn Buenzli and Alexis Nolan each had 2 blocks and Kylee Weber finished with 1. Caitlin Pattison also led the team with 4 ace serves. Keya Welch and Macey Banasik each had 2 and Lindsey Nicholson, Karli Myers and Brytta Sagedahl each had 1. Continuing with her strong performance, Caitlin Pattison also led the team in assists with 19. She was helped out by Emily Groom with 12, Brytta Sagedahl and Lily Krahn with 2 each and Mackenzie Pettit with 1.
It was an evenly balanced night in the digging category, led by Emily Groom with 11, Caitlin Pattison and Brytta Sagedahl each with 10, Lindsey Nicholson with 8, Karli Myers with 7, Macey Banasik with 6, Keya Welch with 5, Kylee Weber with 3, Kaitlyn Buenzli, Teri Ziegler and Gabby Toberman each with 2 and Lily Krahn with 1.
The JV and Fr/So teams both won their matches as well, with a good start to the eventful evening.
On Saturday, Oct. 6, the varsity volleyball team traveled to La Crosse Logan for their invitational.
Missing two starters (Caitlin Pattison and Brytta Sagedahl to prior obligations) and giving two younger girls some good varsity experience, the team went 0-4 for the day, losing in three sets to Wisconsin Dells 25-21, 18-25, 10-15.
Next up was Lewiston-Altura. After a break and a slow start, Prairie lost 15-25, then 23-25.
After the two losses, the team was down and just couldn’t gain any momentum, losing to McDonnell Central 5-25 and 14-25.
To start the bracket play, the Blackhawks had to play McDonnell Central again. This time the girls fought back, but still lost 24-26 and 22-25.
