Moving day coming for PdC library
For months, the Prairie du Chien Memorial Library has been waiting to return to its home at 125 S. Wacouta Ave. Tentatively, on Oct. 5, at 5 p.m., the temporary location at St. John’s school will be closing. Then, the newly-renovated facility will open its doors to patrons on Monday, Oct. 15.
To make the conversion, the library (both locations) will be closed, Oct. 6-14, in order to make the move.
The good news is, with the extended closure in mind, the library staff and board encourage everyone to come in and check out a ton of books and materials. Not only will you be helping them out, but there’s also no limit, so you will be able to check out as many books as you wish.
A two-week amnesty period will be offered in order to help with the potential confusion surrounding the move. During this time, no fines will be charged for late materials no matter when they were checked out. The amnesty period is slated for Oct. 15-29.
A book drop will be available at the St. John’s location for patrons who wish to drop off their books during the closure.
Additionally, volunteers will be needed to assist with the early stages of the move, so if you have a moment to spare, please stop by or give the library a call at 326-6211. With the advance notice, they’ll be able to better coordinate tasks. At this time, they will need volunteers Monday, Oct. 8 through Wednesday, Oct. 10, to help get the procedure started.
