Leo Francis McNally, 104, of Monona, Iowa died Friday, September 21, 2018, at Garden View in Monona, Iowa. Leo Francis was born January 13, 1914 to Richard Eli and Flora (Zieglar) McNally in Postville, Iowa. He was baptized on January 17, 1914, at St. Peter’s Church in Clermont, Iowa by Rev. J.J. Hefuir. He received his education in the country school in Clayton County, known as Pixler School. Leo spent his younger years working as a hired hand for neighbors. In 1930 he went out to North and South Dakota and followed the harvest.

On December 11, 1937, Leo was united in marriage to Violet Heins at Albert Lea, Minnesota. To this union five children were born. They rented the home farm for four years. In 1956 they purchased the George Fay Farm and farmed until 1971. Due to heart problems they sold the farm and moved to Postville, Iowa. Leo worked part-time putting up grain bins for the Farmers Coop, which he enjoyed very much. Leo also enjoyed taking his children, grandchildren and friends up to Canada fishing. He loved nature and went fishing and hunting often, he also enjoyed taking his family on many sightseeing trips.

Leo is survived by his children, Thomas L. (Nancy) McNally of Okeechobee, Florida, Leo Randy (Janet) McNally of Hinckley, Minnesota and Norma (Joe) Ball of Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin; daughter-in-law, Beverly McNally of Postville, Iowa; eleven grandchildren, Jeffrey (June) McNally, Julie Strickler (Eutiquio Lozano), James (Joan) Ball, Jared (Jill) Ball, Jason (Kim) Ball, Justin (Angie) McNally, Heather (Mike) Gonzalez, Christine (Jason) Woods, Douglas (Peggy) McNally, Patrick (Meiko) McNally and Trevor (Meryl) McNally; fifteen great-grandchildren, Julissa Lozano, Jessalyn Lozano, Eutiquio Jr. Lozano, Abigail Ball, Hannah Ball, Bryan McNally Joey McNally, Riley Gonzalez, Joshua (Jenny) Woods, Cale (Jayden Schwickerath) Woods, Danielle McNally, Samantha (Logan) Glawe, Aodhan McNally, Sairsha McNally and Kiara McNally; four great-great-grandchildren, Presley and Beau Woods and Rayn and Skyler Woods.
Leo was preceded in death by his wife, Violet; two sons, Roland and Theodore; and one grandson, Russell.

As requested by Leo, no services will be held. His life will be celebrated in a small family gathering.
Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Monona assisted the family with arrangements.
