Seneca/Wauzeka-Steuben handles Kickapoo-La Farge
Seneca/Wauzeka-Steuben easily defeated visiting Kickapoo-La Farge 47-22 on homecoming Friday night in Wauzeka.
Jared Payne scored on a 10-yard run and the PAT was good as SWS took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Gavin Ralph caught a 2-yard TD from Payne and the PAT was good as SWS took a 14-0 advantage. Payne ran it in from 8 yards out and the extra point was good as the Blue-Golds went up 21-0. Quinn Alexander scored on a 1-yard run and the 2-point conversion was good to pull Kickapoo within 21-8 after the first period.
Nate Benish scored on an 8-yard run for SWS to push the lead to 27-8 at the half.
Benish went on a 51-yard TD run and the 2-point play was good as SWS built the margin to 35-8 in the third quarter. Austin Hagensick scored on a 5-yard run and SWS led 41-8. Hagensick again scored on a 5-yard run and the Blue-Golds led 47-8 after three quarters.
Owen Cauffman scored on a 16-yard run in the fourth period for KLF and Wyley Wagner had a 34-yard fumble recovery return for a touchdown and the 2-point play was good as KLF made the final score 47-22.
"We started the game with three quick touchdowns," said SWS Coach Justin Goodrich. "Jared Payne had a great interception in the first quarter. The running game worked very well and we were able to average almost 8 yards per carry. Nate Benish had a great night running and catching the football. We were able to get Nate out in open space and he was able to utilize his speed to get extra yards. We need to have a great week of practice to prepare for Ithaca."
SWS improved to 7-0 on the season.
Benish had 7 carries for 124 yards and 2 TDs for the Blue-Golds. Payne had 8 rushes for 53 yards and 2 TDs. Payne was 7-13 passing for 75 yards and a touchdown. Bradley Karnopp was 1-1 for 15 yards. Benish caught 2 passes for 57 yards. Jaden Berger hauled in 1 reception for 15 yards.
