MFL MarMac High School held an academic achievement assembly Sept. 21, recognizing the hard work and leadership of many students.

“We’re recognizing those of you who have stepped up in the classroom and stepped up to be leaders,” stated principal Larry Meyer to those gathered at the assembly.

High school, he noted, is one of the best places to learn how to become a leader. 

“There are so many opportunities for you to become a leader—in the classroom, on the football field, in band,” he said. “But the most important aspect of your life where you can be a leader is in the ability to be kind to each other and to do the right thing.”

The first honors given were academic awards to sophomores, juniors and seniors who have maintained a 3.5 grade point average.

Sophomores who earned a patch included Emma Keehner, Koal Klenk, Scotlyn Coenen, Lexy Johnson, Rose Grau, Mackenzy Ruff, Anna Stoddard, Kayden Gillitzer, Avery Ihde, Victor Breuer, Kylee Bries, Max Havlicek, Braden Landt, Colin Moses, Brock Lamborn, Riley Whitney, Marlene Franzen, JJ Lynd, Abby Koslowski and Zoee Gerndt. 

Juniors who received bronze medals or patches included Max Koeller, Saysha Schoulte, Rachel Davis, Megan Lang, Ashley Weaver, Destiny Berns, RoseMary McGeough, Beau Benzing, Spencer Larson, Maya Butikofer, Miqenzie Gilberts, Keagan Smerud, Kira Rieck, Brinan Berger, Taylor Berns, Ethan Stubbs, Cedrick Drahn, Eli Johnson, Jackson Landt, Zach Howe, Logan Klenk and Jesse Breuer.

Seniors earning silver medals were Megan Budde, Brookelyn Radloff, Brenna Boland, Kyleigh Picha, Kaitlyn Berns, Ellie Kinley, Lizzie Herzmann, Jayde Schubert, Keagan Moose, Hannah Schutte, Mikayla Roys, Macie Weigand, Cassidy Penrod, Chloe Diehl, Summer Schutte, Amber Hickman, Breanna Knickerbocker, Emma Ammons, Josie Kleinow, Eden Heying, Hanna Dickman, Taylor Gerndt, Elizabeth Grady, Garret Keehner, Emily Watson and Abby Zeeh.

Recognized next were the class officers, as well as the officers for the organizations SODA, National Honor Society, FFA and chorus, and the officers and representatives of the student council.

Senior class officers include president Abby Zeeh, vice president Kaitlyn Berns and treasurer Keagan Moose. Ethan Stubbs is the president of the junior class, while Beau Benzing is the vice president, Ashley Weaver the treasurer and Destiny Berns the secretary. For the sophomore class, Riley Whitney is president, Max Havlicek vice president, Rose Grau treasurer and Anna Stoddard secretary. Freshmen class officers include president Cullen McShane, vice president Dacia Schoulte, treasurer Dusty Berns and secretary Haylee Guyer.

Josie Kleinow is president of the student council, while RoseMary McGeough is vice president and Emma Ammons is secretary/treasurer. Kleinow and Ammons, along with Hanna Dickman, are the senior representatives. In addition to McGeough, Maya Butikofer, Kira Rieck and Keagan Smerud are the junior representatives. Sophomore representatives are Marlene Franzen, Mackenzy Ruff and Tyler Trappe, while Kayleen Fels, Collin Henkels and Abby Schellhorn represent the freshmen.

For SODA (Students Opposed to Drugs and Alcohol), Ellie Kinley serves as president. Lauren Gillitzer is the organization’s vice president, Saysha Schoulte is secretary and Breanna Knickerbocker is treasurer.

Cassidy Penrod is president of the National Honor Society, while Breanna Knickerbocker is vice president, Keagan Moose secretary, Mikayla Roys treasurer and Lauren Gillitzer the reporter.

FFA officers are president Macie Weigand, vice president Mikayla Roys, secretary Lizzie Herzmann, treasurer Keagan Moose, reporters Kayleigh White and Kaitlyn Berns, sentinel Skylar Moser and student advisor Braxsten Jones.

Abby Zeeh serves as president of the chorus and Sam Koeller is vice president. Lizzie Herzmann represents the seniors, Keagan Smerud the juniors, Riley Whitney the sophomores and Eva Budde the freshmen.

Many students were also recognized for their participation in MFL MarMac’s Silver Cord Service Learning Program. 

“It is the Bulldog way to be active in our school and community,” said Leslie Henkes, who oversees the program.

Students who complete 160 hours of community service by the end of their senior year are recognized with a silver cord at graduation. Those who have, so far, earned 80 or more hours include Emma Ammons, Kaitlyn Berns, Hanna Dickman, Lauren Gillitzer, Amber Hickman, Josie Kleinow, Breanna Knickerbocker, Keagan Moose, Kyleigh Picha, Mikayla Roys, Jayde Schubert, Summer Schutte, Macie Weigand, Jesse Breuer, Maya Butikofer and Saysha Schoulte.

The assembly wrapped up with many students receiving invitations to apply for National Honor Society.
