County considers splitting Satter Building property in PdC for sale purposes

The Crawford County Delinquent Tax Committee is considering having a certified survey done of the Satter Building property in Prairie du Chien. It is also pondering splitting the buildings on the site for possible sale purposes.
There is a smaller, solidly constructed building behind the Satter Building that someone might like to purchase for a possible home or for some other use. By splitting the property, a potential buyer could purchase the small building without having to worry about the large Satter Building.
The Satter Building has deteriorated over the years since the county sold it to Prairie River Investments of Madison for $350,000 in 2006. County Treasurer Deanne Lutz said the Satter Building property and the small building in the back might be sold at auction, hopefully in November or December of 2018. Several other foreclosed upon properties will be sold at the auction as well. Lutz said it is not yet known how many properties will be up for auction.
At its regular meeting on Tuesday afternoon, the delinquent tax committee selected Kramer Auction Service of Prairie du Chien to conduct the auction.
The Satter Building property was foreclosed upon on Aug. 2 and the county regained ownership because back taxes, interest and penalties totalling $63,061.77 has not been paid. Back taxes had been owed since 2012.
The Satter Building is located at 111 W. Dunn St. It sits on 2.88 acres.
The new owners of any property purchased at the auction would not be responsible for any back taxes, interest or penalties.
Lutz said the delinquent tax committee is also considering keeping the Satter Building because of its very poor condition inside and out.
