The Prairie du Chien boys soccer team hosted the Platteville Hillmen Tuesday night. It was Parents’ Night and at halftime parents of players and managers were introduced and thanked for their unending support and dedication to the players and the program.

Platteville took early control of the game, but the Blackhawks defense put up a tight wall and stopped the Hillmen attack including a penalty kick stop by goalie Ryan Thien. Late in the half, 44:05, Platteville found a crack in the Prairie’s defensive shield and slipped in the score to take a 1-0 lead at the half.

In the second half, the strong defense continued, but Platteville continued to slowly wear the Hawks down and found openings for two more goals in the 69th and 72nd minutes to take a 3-0 lead which would hold till the final whistle.

Platteville’s defense was equally strong and shut down the Blackhawk attack, allowing only 6 shots on goal for the night.

On defense, Ben Teynor and Josh Dyer in the middle, Joey Gordon and Anthony Irvine on the edges and Derek Grondin and Spencer DeHart rotating at stopper had outstanding and unrelenting performances. The PdC line denied 12 corner kicks from the Hillmen and Ryan Thein in his first outing of the season was dauntless with 22 saves.

The Blackhawks travel to West Salem this Saturday for the Coulee Christian Kick-Off Tournament. Next week, the Hawks begin a conference three-game home stand hosting Richland Center on Tuesday, River Valley on Thursday and Dodgeville on Sept. 25. All games start at 4:30 on the Bluff View pitch. Thank you to all the students, fans and especially the parents for their support of PdC Blackhawk Soccer.
