Both the Wisconsin and Mississippi rivers near Prairie du Chien are predicted to be near flood stage by Sept. 11 or Sept. 12.

Due to recent heavy rains in northern Wisconsin and Minnesota, the Mississippi River has been rising. According to the National Weather Service, the river was at 11.84 feet at 11 a.m. on Sept. 5 at the McGregor gauge. It is predicted to crest at 14.2 feet on Sept. 12. The Wisconsin River was at 5.23 feet at 11 a.m. on Sept. 5 at Muscoda. It is expected to reach 8.7 feet by Sept. 11. Flood stage is 9 feet.

There is no gauge on the Wisconsin River below where the record-setting flood of the Kickapoo River has been flowing into it. Suffice it to say, the Wisconsin River below the mouth of the Kickapoo River will be getting quite high.

The Turkey River in northeast Iowa is flooding as well. The river at Elkader crested at 16.06 feet on Sept. 5 and was at 15.5 feet at 11 a.m. on Sept. 6. Flood stage at Elkader is 12 feet. Moderate flood stage is 16 feet.

At 19 feet, County Road X3C at the south end of Garber becomes inundated. At 17 feet, minor flooding begins in the communities of Garber, Osterdock and Millville.
