On Aug. 12, at 12:28 a.m., the Prairie du Chien Police Department was notified of a traffic crash in the 1100 block of South Marquette Rd. in Prairie du Chien. Officers responded to the area and found a vehicle in the front lawn of 1118 South Marquette Road with heavy front-end damage. Officers also located a man unconscious in the driver’s seat.

As a result of the crash investigation, it was determined that a 2013 Dodge Avenger being operated by Luke Erickson, 27, Wauzeka, was southbound on South Marquette Road. At the intersection of East Wells Street and South Marquette Road, the Erickson vehicle crashed through the “Road Closed” barricades and struck the unfinished edge of the newly constructed concrete roadway. The Erickson vehicle continued south through the 1000 block of South Marquette Road where it struck a large barrel of concrete sealant. The Erickson vehicle then left the east side of the roadway and struck another portion of the unfinished concrete roadway. The Erickson vehicle then entered the front lawn of 1118 South Marquette Road where it came to rest.

Erickson was cited for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants and failure to obey a traffic control sign in a construction zone.

Erickson was transported the Crossing Rivers Health by Tri-State Ambulance Service and later transferred to a LaCrosse hospital by Tri-State Ambulance.

The Prairie du Chien Police Department was assisted at the scene by Milo’s Towing and Repair, the Prairie du Chien Fire Department, Tri-State EMS and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department.
