Elsie C. Cecka, 93, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Friday, Aug. 10, at the Prairie Maison Nursing Home where she resided since May 2004. 

She was born Aug. 20, 1924, in Prairie du Chien, the daughter of Frank and Elsie (Geisler) Welsh. She was living on the family farm on Irish Ridge when her mother passed away at the young age of 39. Then the family moved into Prairie du Chien. 

She graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in 1943. Among her places of employment were the Tobacco Co., Bargain Boutique, 3M, Pine Tree Inn, and the Shopping News. Elsie married Louis Cecka on April 18, 1945, at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church. They had one child: Arlene Cecka, of Las Vegas, Nev. 

Elsie is survived by her daughter Arlene; two grandchildren: Vicky (Chris) Bladl Milton and Doug Mezera, Janesville; and two great grandchildren McKenna and Garrett Bladl. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Louie, on Jan. 24, 1986; sisters, Betty (Byron) Freymiller, Leone (Donald) Peloch, Evelyn (Myron) Knoble, and Violet (Harry) Hamann; and brothers Donald, Harvey and Loren Welsh. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, Aug. 14, at 11 a.m., at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Rev. James Weighner officiating, with burial in the Calvary Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of services. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.
