Stan served overseas in the U.S. Army during WWII and later returned to become a prominent businessman in Prairie du Chien, operating and later owning Hamann’s Variety Store for 40 years.  In his spare time, he was an avid hunter and fisherman spending countless hours pursuing these pastimes on the Mississippi River.

He is survived by his son Rick (Patty), of Prairie du Chien; his daughter Jan (George) Collins, of Somers, Conn.; his sister Priscilla (Jimmy) Englebright, of Homosassa, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Leona in 1999; his friend Ag in 2009; three sisters; and one infant brother.

Funeral services will be Saturday, July 7, at 11 a.m., at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel, Pastor Barb Cook officiating, with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Military honors will be accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. Friends may call on Friday, July 6, from 5 to 8 p.m., and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Crossing Rivers Hospice Program.
