Though the Prairie du Chien Jaycees recently disbanded, the remaining club members realized how important the successful continuation of the Operation Santa project is to the community. With that in mind, the Rotary Club of Prairie du Chien has agreed to take the lead on organizing the event moving forward.

Operation Santa has assisted hundreds of families in the area around Christmas time with a food box, gifts for children, personal hygiene products, hats, mittens, gently-used coats, etc. This community project and the need for it is why many of the Jaycee members were members in the first place.

“I started the Jaycees because of Operation Santa 17 years ago,” former Jaycee Tarah Marx said. “At first, when volunteering during distribution, I was sad for those in need. But after the event, I was happy because I was part of this community event that helped so many people in need during the holidays.”

Because its community service reputation is highly regarded, the Rotary Club was sought to lead Operation Santa. The members of the Rotary Club voted in favor of taking the project over and hope to do so in collaboration with other organizations and individuals interested in helping.

“We commend the Jaycees for their long-standing legacy of serving our communities and are honored to ensure this meaningful project continues into the future,” expressed Sasha Dull, president of the Prairie du Chien Rotary Club. “The Rotary Club is seeking assistance from community members and other civic organizations to make sure this project is successful in continuing to fulfill a need for area families during the holiday season.”

The PdC Jaycees as well as the Prairie du Chien Rotary Club commend the community businesses, organizations and individuals who have donated over the years to Operation Santa. Donations for 2018 should be addressed to the PdC Rotary Club, P.O. Box 35, Prairie du Chien, WI 53821. As they begin planning for  2018 collection and distribution, the Rotary Club will send out communication to businesses as the Jaycees did in the past. Anyone interested in supporting Operation Santa may email PdCRotary@gmail.com.
