The city of Prairie du Chien is beginning the Michigan Street reconstruction project. The project includes street and utility replacement on North Michigan Street, from Blackhawk Avenue to Perry Street; Haydn Street, from Michigan Street to Illinois Street; and Park Street from Michigan Street to Illinois Street. The street construction will include removing the existing street and installing new sanitary sewer, water main, storm sewer, base course, curb and gutter, asphalt pavement, concrete sidewalk and driveway aprons.

The project will be completed in two phases. The Michigan Street section, from Park Street to Perry Street, and Park Street section, from Michigan Street to Illinois Street, started June 4 and will conclude Oct. 15. The second phase—the Michigan Street section, from Blackhawk Avenue to Park Street, and Haydn Street, from Michigan Street to Illinois Street—will start July 28 and end Oct. 31. The construction schedule may change due to weather or other construction delays.

H. James and Sons is the contractor and Vierbicher Associates are the engineers for the project. With questions, contact city hall at 326-6406 or Matt Muchow from Vierbicher Associates at (608) 434-1053.
