Marylu Sauer, of Madison, had the soul of a gypsy, the spirit of a hippie and the heart of an angel. She passed away unexpectedly on May 5.

Marylu was born in Prairie du Chien, on Aug. 12, 1956, and was the daughter of Jerry and Inez Sauer. Later, her family moved to Madison where she attended St. Patrick’s School and Madison Central High School. After high school, Marylu traveled and lived in various states including Alaska, Olympia, Wa., San Diego, Calif., Eagle Nest and Taos, N.M., and finally, she moved back to Madison, to be closer to family and friends.

Her loved ones knew her as a free spirit who loved nature, camping, swimming, hiking, animals, selling her treasures at flea markets and, most importantly, spending quality time laughing with her friends and family. The world was a better place with her in it and she will be deeply missed by all who were graced by her laughter and spirit.

Marylu is survived by her nieces Linda Bushee and Marcia Secor (Dave); great nieces Nikki Bushee and Bella Conley; brother-in-law Don Treinen; nephews Josh Sauer and Montgomery Conley (Nicole); several cousins; and an amazing abundance of close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Inez Sauer; her brother and sister-in-law David and Piper Sauer; and her sister Frances Treinen.

Cremation will be completed at Informed Choice Funeral & Cremation Alternatives. Family and friends are invited to attend her Memorial and Celebration of Life dinner on May 19, at VFW Post 8443 Longmire-Truax, 5737 County Road CV, Madison.

A memorial/visitation with family and friends will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. Then, from 5 to 7 p.m., friends and family are invited to share their favorite memories or stories of Marylu during a celebration of life dinner.  In lieu of buying flowers, we invite friends and family to instead make a donation to the assist the family with Marylu’s final expenses during this difficult time. Any questions can be directed to her niece at marciasecor@gmail.com or (414) 477-2304.
