On May 8 at 5:09 p.m., the Crawford County Communications Center received a report of a two-vehicle head-on collision on Highway 61 at Third Street in the village of Soldiers Grove.

Dawson R. Anderson, 19, Gays Mills, was operating 2008 Pontiac Vibe on Third Street, attempting to cross both lanes of Highway 61. Rebekah A. Ghormley, 57, Soldiers Grove, was operating a 2013 Honda Fit Hatchback southbound on Highway 61. As Anderson attempted to cross the highway, she pulled out in front of the Ghormley vehicle. Both vehicles collided in the roadway. Anderson stated she did not see the Ghormley vehicle as she attempted to cross both lanes of Highway 61.

Anderson and Ghormley were both transported to Vernon Memorial Hospital for medical treatment. Both vehicles were removed from the scene by Fry’s Towing. Anderson was issued a citation for failure to yield the right of way.

Assisting on scene were North Crawford Rescue, Soldiers Grove Fire Department and Fry’s Towing.
