A 4-year-old has died after falling from a moving pickup truck in Woodman Township the evening of May 4.

According to Grant County Sheriff Nate Dreckman, at about 5:30 p.m. Friday, Jason Wachter, 45, of Woodman, was traveling between farms, going east on County Highway C, approaching the intersection of Highway 133, in his 2003 Ford F450. Kage Wachter, 4, was sitting next to the passenger door, when the door opened and he fell from the truck, the sheriff’s report said.

Kage was struck by the rear tires and became unresponsive. Jason and another passerby began CPR until deputies, EMS, and MedFlight arrived. However, all the lifesaving efforts were unable to revive Kage, Sheriff Dreckman said.

The fatal crash investigation is still ongoing. The Grant County Sheriffs Office was assisted by Woodman First Responders, Boscobel EMS, Mt. Hope Fire, UW-Health MedFlight, Gundersen Boscobel, and the Grant County Coroners Office.

This is the second motor vehicle fatality in Grant County for 2018.
